Madison, WI – During last night’s State of the State Address, Governor Tony Evers underscored Wisconsin’s progress in economic and workforce development over the last seven years of his Administration, while warning that reckless decisions in Washington threaten to undermine that progress. Governor Evers condemned the costly actions of the Trump Administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill”, chaotic tariff and trade wars, and mass firing of federal workers who serve Wisconsin’s veterans and farmers.
Gov. Evers expressed concern saying, “I’m worried about the impacts of reckless decisions being made in Washington, and that these decisions will have disastrous consequences for Wisconsinites, taxpayers, and our state budget moving forward… I’m worried that, even with our successful efforts to help folks make ends meet, Wisconsinites are feeling the squeeze … Prices are going up on things like school supplies, groceries, clothes, gas, and more… I noted earlier that our state has seen historic economic success under my administration, which has seen a budget surplus and a ‘rainy day’ fund at record-high levels. Based on what’s coming, I worry how long that will last.”
Americans are worse off than they were a year ago. From utility bills to groceries and health care, life is more expensive than it was before Trump took office. Household electric bills have surged by 13%; residential gas prices have increased nearly 60%, and energy bills are rising nearly twice as fast as inflation.
Just last week, FEMA once again denied Wisconsin’s request for federal disaster relief, marking the second time the Trump administration has refused to help the state recover from last summer’s catastrophic flooding. Despite bipartisan appeals from the entire congressional delegation and Speaker Robin Vos, the Trump administration has continued to turn its back on Wisconsin, which now has to bear an additional $26.5 million in recovery costs.
In his last address to Wisconsin as Governor, Governor Evers reaffirmed his commitment to standing up for Wisconsin families and protecting the state’s economic future, despite the Trump administration turning its back on Wisconsinites.
