EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Today, Rebecca Cooke, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, proved she is the clear choice for Wisconsin voters, outmatching Derrick Van Orden with the substantive policies and lived experiences needed to fight for working people and retirees across the district.
Two weeks out from Election Day, the two participated in a forum to discuss the things that matter most to Wisconsinites. Cooke walked away as the only one with concrete plans to bring costs down for working families, bolster agriculture and small businesses, and make healthcare more accessible. Van Orden, as usual, resorted to lies about his record rather than addressing the harm his votes have brought to the people of Wisconsin.
“Once again, Derrick Van Orden has shown he is just another Washington politician who forgot who he works for. He voted to gut our healthcare, backed the forever war in Iran, and pushed tariffs that jacked up prices on everything we buy, leaving Wisconsin families paying the price,” said Rebecca Cooke.
Cooke continued, “I’ve lived and worked here my whole life – working our family’s dairy farm, running a small business, waiting tables, and listening to folks who are just trying to get by. I know what our communities are up against, and I’ve got the backbone to fight for the people Washington has left behind.”
The forum, hosted by the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce and local TV station, WEAU, lasted an hour and covered immigration, healthcare, global conflict, reliable energy, infrastructure and more. Over the course of the hour, Van Orden repeated his lies about securing funding for hospitals, voting to extend the ACA tax credits, and Rebecca’s “waterfront property.”
