EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – Today, Rebecca Cooke, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, issued the following statement on the House vote to extend the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits:
“Today’s vote is a commonsense step towards lowering the cost of health care for tens of thousands of hardworking Wisconsinites in our community. However, it should not have taken this long for Congress to act. Far too many people in Western Wisconsin are one health care emergency away from financial disaster and that is unacceptable. Extending the ACA tax credits is the bare minimum for bringing down the skyrocketing cost of health care.
“Derrick Van Orden spent months attacking the ACA tax credits. He has repeatedly called for repealing the Affordable Care Act and has refused to put forward a single proposal to lower health care costs for hardworking families. Today’s vote is too little too late from someone who voted to slash Badgercare for thousands of his constituents and refused to lift a finger as rural hospitals in our community closed.”
