MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Today, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley and Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski were joined by Senator Tammy Baldwin and Dr. Allison Linton, a board-certified OBGYN, at Turner Hall. They discussed how a Crowley-Godlewski administration will protect reproductive rights and expand access to life-saving medical care, and how the billionaires spending tens of millions of dollars to elect MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany have spent years bankrolling the push for a national abortion ban.
Crowley committed that, as governor, he will work with the legislature to pass a constitutional amendment that explicitly protects reproductive freedom, so that Wisconsin women’s rights no longer depend on the outcome of the next election.
“I’m a proud husband and girl dad times three, so for me, this isn’t a policy debate; it’s personal,” said Crowley. “Right now, women’s rights are only as safe as the next election, and I don’t think Wisconsin women should have to hold their breath every four years. As governor, I will work with the legislature to pass a constitutional amendment that explicitly protects reproductive freedom in this state. Those decisions belong to patients and their health care providers. Not politicians. Not the federal government. And not billionaires.”
Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, Crowley’s running mate for lieutenant governor, laid out what is on the ballot this November.
“Wisconsin women’s fundamental freedoms are on the ballot this November,” said Godlewski. “David Crowley and I will always defend a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, free from political interference. Full stop. The same billionaire network bankrolling Tom Tiffany has spent years funding the national assault on reproductive freedom. We have a message for them: Wisconsin is not for sale.”
Senator Baldwin pointed to her own 2024 race, when the same donors spent millions trying to defeat her.
“I’ve beaten this money before. The same billionaires spent millions trying to buy my seat in 2024, and Wisconsin said no,” said Baldwin. “They tried to buy my seat. Now they’re trying to buy your governor. There’s only one candidate in this race who will protect reproductive care in Wisconsin, and that’s David Crowley. He’ll veto any ban, protect birth control, and lead the fight to put reproductive freedom in the state constitution.”
Crowley’s Plan to Protect Reproductive Freedom:
- Work with the legislature to pass a constitutional amendment establishing a fundamental right to make and carry out decisions about reproductive health, including contraception, fertility treatment, pregnancy, miscarriage care, and abortion.
- Keep medical judgments about viability and necessary care with the treating health care professional.
- Prevent the state from penalizing someone for seeking health care or helping another person seek care.
- Veto any abortion ban and protect access to birth control.
- Remove unnecessary barriers and improve access to affordable reproductive care throughout Wisconsin, including in rural communities.
Tiffany’s Record on Reproductive Freedom:
- Tiffany backed a plan to ban abortion nationwide at zero weeks with no exceptions for rape, incest, or life of the mother. American Journal News reported the ban could “make getting an abortion legally tantamount to committing murder” and threaten fertility treatments like IVF.
- Tiffany voted against protecting access to birth control and against the Women’s Health Protection Act.
- Tiffany celebrated the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
- 3 billionaires have put $34 million behind Tiffany’s campaign, and Tiffany has voted with Donald Trump 100% of the time.
- Tiffany’s running mate, David Varnam, has said he supports no exceptions to an abortion ban and celebrated the fall of Roe.
