MILWAUKEE, Wis. – As gas and diesel prices continue to hit new record highs in Wisconsin with no signs of slowing down, MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany is staying silent on the issue. Wisconsin diesel prices are averaging $6.19 across the state and the price of gas is $4.34 on average. The growing pain at the pump is being driven by MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s and Donald Trump’s war of choice with Iran. Tiffany has falsely claimed he wants the war to end while voting every time to keep it going. Yet, as gas prices become a major concern for Wisconsinites, Tom Tiffany has stayed silent.

“MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany has contributed to the pain Wisconsinites are feeling at the pump with record-setting gas costs that are a direct result of his votes to continue the war in Iran,” said Crowley. “Congressman Tom Tiffany’s making it harder for families, farmers, manufacturers, and truck drivers to fill up their tanks—I know that because my family feels it firsthand too. It’s why I want to repeal a depression era law that would bring prices down by $.40 cents per gallon of gas and over $.56 for diesel. Congressman Tiffany has drained the pockets of working families while handing out tax breaks to big tech billionaires.”

According to Politico, diesel prices have risen nearly 60 percent in the past 12 months. At the start of the year, Tiffany bragged that 2026 was “on track to be the cheapest year for gas since 2020.” David Crowley offered an immediate solution to bring some relief at the pump—repealing the minimum mark-up law on gas. This would currently reduce gas costs by $.40 cents per gallon, and $.56 cents for diesel.

  • Wisconsin drivers are paying significantly more at the pump Thursday after gas prices jumped 23 cents overnight. The statewide average for regular gas reached $4.34 a gallon Sept. 17, up from $4.11 Wednesday, according to AAA. That’s 45 cents more than a month ago and $1.45 more than a year ago, when gas averaged $2.89 a gallon.

WBAY: Governor candidates call for repeal of minimum markup law as gas prices surge

  • While campaigning in Green Bay Wednesday morning, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, who is running as a Democrat for lieutenant governor, called for the repeal of the state’s minimum markup law. Godlewski said the repeal has David Crowley’s support as well, citing the immediate savings it could bring. 
  • “We want to repeal the minimum mark-up law, that’s a law right now in Wisconsin, that requires gas stations to increase the base cost by 9 percent. So you think about that, that can take off a lot, 50 cents,” said Sarah Godlewski, Democrat Secretary of State and candidate for lieutenant governor.
