Yesterday, Tom Tiffany’s interview with WisPolitics made clear that he is on the wrong side of the issues that will determine whether Wisconsin can grow, compete, and remain affordable for working families.

1) Tiffany Opposes $315 Million Investment in Special Education

Tiffany confirmed that he opposed the bipartisan surplus agreement because he wanted to reject the entire deal, including the additional $315 million investment in special education funding that school districts across Wisconsin urgently need.

Instead, Tiffany proposed spending the entire surplus on lopsided tax cuts that will benefit the wealthiest Wisconsinites and big corporations, just like his vote last year for the corrupt Republican spending bill that rewarded those at the very top.

Tiffany’s decision to oppose critical special education funding sends a clear message to families across the state that their children’s future comes second to political gamesmanship.

While David Crowley agreed that Wisconsin must make a serious commitment to supporting students with disabilities and easing the burden on local taxpayers, Tiffany chose ideology over Wisconsin children and families. Wisconsin families cannot afford to risk educational opportunities under Tom Tiffany’s leadership.

2) Tiffany Attempts to Rewrite Election Denial History

Tiffany attempted to rewrite his record on the 2020 election after years of supporting Donald Trump’s effort to overturn a lawful democratic outcome. Tiffany voted to object to the certification of both Pennsylvania and Arizona on January 6 and helped fuel a conspiracy campaign that undermined trust in elections across the country. Now, when it is politically convenient, Tiffany wants voters to believe he never supported Trump’s corrupt scheme and simply accepted the result all along.

The reality is that Tiffany stood with Trump while he pushed illegal schemes to overturn an election he knew he lost, and he continues to support efforts to weaponize government power against election officials and clerks in communities Trump does not like, including Milwaukee County. Wisconsin deserves better than a politician desperately trying to erase his own record because he knows how dangerous and unpopular it has become.

3) Tiffany Has No Vision For Economic Growth in Wisconsin

Tiffany’s interview also exposed how little interest he has in building a stronger economy or finding responsible ways to create growth and generate revenue for Wisconsin. Tiffany said he opposes any expansion of gaming and could not offer a definitive answer on online sports betting legislation that has been publicly debated for nine months.

While other states move aggressively to modernize their economies and capture new revenue streams that can reduce pressure on property taxpayers and invest in priorities like education and infrastructure, Tiffany has been too busy voting with Trump to cut spending on healthcare and food assistance to seriously engage with policies that would help Wisconsin compete. Nothing in yesterday’s interview suggested that would change if he became governor, and Wisconsin simply cannot afford Tom Tiffany.“Tiffany’s interview was a disaster that exposed just how extreme, out of touch, and visionless Tom Tiffany is when it comes to the future of Wisconsin. At a time when families are demanding leadership focused on lowering costs, expanding opportunity, strengthening schools, and growing the economy, Tiffany offered more political grievances, more election conspiracies, and more obstruction,” said a Crowley for Wisconsin campaign spokesperson. “David Crowley is running for governor with a clear plan to make sure every Wisconsin household can afford the basics, every child has access to opportunity, and every community is positioned to grow and succeed for the next generation.”
