MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Over the last week, David Crowley and Sarah Godlewski traveled across Wisconsin to hear from working Wisconsinites about the impacts of record-high gas and diesel costs being driven by MAGA Congressman Tom Tiffany’s and Donald Trump’s war with Iran. Tom Tiffany has previously and callously said “affordability” was just a “buzzword,” even as the cost of living continues to be the number one issue for voters in Wisconsin.
In Kewaunee, Clark Riemer, a 4th generation family farmer, shared with Crowley, “This farm could come to an end after 100-some years and all the blood, sweat and tears and everything that was put into this because of some policies, Washington, because somebody doesn’t care about people down here at the bottom.”
After walking back his support for the Iran war, Tiffany has failed to express an ounce of regret for the five votes he’s taken to keep the war going, which is responsible for the record high gas and diesel costs. Last week, he said there’s nothing he could do about gas prices as governor, but he’s not just running for a job promotion – he’s a sitting congressman who has had the power to act on this crisis the whole time and instead voted to keep the war going and for gas prices to go up.
While Tiffany runs from his record, Crowley has offered a solution that would give Wisconsinites across the state immediate relief on the price of gas. As governor, Crowley will repeal the minimum markup on gas, a Depression-era law that would currently lower prices by 40 cents per gallon of gas and over 56 cents per gallon of diesel.
