The DCCC, making its first financial commitment in southeastern Wisconsin’s 1st CD through a joint buy with Mitchell Berman, knocks GOP incumbent Bryan Steil for more than doubling his net worth while in Washington, D.C.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said the ad will air in the Milwaukee and Madison markets starting today.
As of last night, AdImpact had tracked a $271,000 joint buy from the committee and Berman, an emergency room nurse from Raymond.
Overall, Steil and those backing him had $6.3 million in reservations between Aug. 11 and the November election, while Berman and his supporters had $3.4 million.
In the ad, Berman says Steil, R-Janesville, has “done pretty well for himself in Washington,” adding his stock portfolio is one of Congress’ best.
“Bryan Steil and I both chase bucks. Difference is mine has antlers,” Berman says as the ad shows a picture of him with his daughters and a deer.
Berman adds he doesn’t own stocks, doesn’t take corporate PAC money and will “ban members of Congress from trading stocks because public service shouldn’t be about getting rich.”
In delivering the required disclaimer, Berman says he approves the message “because Washington should work for us and not whoever cuts the check.”
The spot comes after Steil started a new ad last week saying he’s “leading the charge to ban members of Congress from trading stocks.”
