On the heels of an embarrassing sweep of GOP losses in last week’s spring election, Tom Tiffany is releasing the first ad of his gubernatorial campaign. Unfortunately for Tiffany, the ad misses critical details of his platform and record. Here are five things you need to know about who Tom Tiffany really is.

  1. Tiffany sent costs soaring on everything: Tiffany voted for the disastrous and deeply unpopular budget law that guts Medicaid, kicks thousands of Wisconsinites off SNAP, and drives up utility bills and housing costs. Tiffany even praised the law as “a major win for the American people.”
  2. Tiffany voted for the cost-raising tariffs that are devastating Wisconsin farmers: Tiffany voted seven times to defend Washington Republicans’ reckless tariffs — including on Canada – which cost Wisconsin households $1,000 last year and has put Wisconsin cattle ranchers and soybean farmers “in the middle of a trade war.”
  3. Tiffany worked to overturn the results of the 2020 election: Tiffany voted against certifying the 2020 election, signed on to a brief to overturn the outcome of that year’s election, and has pushed dangerous and debunked conspiracy theories about the election being stolen. Now he wants to get rid of mail-in voting, even though he’s voted by mail himself a dozen times.
  4. Tiffany has an extreme anti-choice record: Tiffany proudly co-sponsored a bill that would ban abortion before most women know they’re pregnant, and his support for the disastrous budget law has already prompted Wisconsin Planned Parenthood to stop scheduling abortion appointments.
  5. Tiffany has failed to do his job, and now he’s asking for a promotion: Tiffany may have perfect attendance at Nutcracker shows, but he certainly doesn’t in the House of Representatives. He has missed more votes in Congress than any other Wisconsin Representative since he was elected to office.

“While Tom Tiffany tries to trick voters into thinking he’s just like them, his failed record tells a different story. From voting for legislation that skyrockets the cost of everything to threatening rural hospitals to turbocharging a trade war when Wisconsin farmers are already declaring bankruptcy at the highest rate in decades, Tiffany’s failure to mention these bona fides tells voters exactly why they can’t trust him to be their governor,” said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy.
