MARATHON COUNTY, Wis. – Attorney General Josh Kaul today announced a $350,000 settlement with Crystal Finishing Systems, Inc. The settlement resolves a civil environmental enforcement action against the company for alleged violations of its air pollution control permits and State air pollution control laws. The company specializes in manufacturing and coating aluminum products. It owns and operates facilities in Schofield and Mosinee, Wisconsin.
“Our air pollution control laws serve the critical purpose of limiting emissions that could be harmful to people’s health,” said AG Kaul. “Getting accountability when those laws are violated can help deter future violations.”
The State alleged that Crystal Finishing violated the State’s environmental laws in numerous ways, including by emitting hazardous air pollutant and volatile organic compound emissions in excess of the company’s permitted limits. The State also alleged that Crystal Finishing failed to properly operate its emission capture and control systems; did not develop and submit required plans, reports, and specifications; and did not properly train its painters.
The stipulated judgment requires the company to pay a total of $350,000 in forfeitures, surcharges, and court costs. The Order for Judgment was signed by Marathon County Circuit Court Judge LaMont K. Jacobson on February 17, 2026.
