SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred in the City of Superior in Douglas County, Wis. on the evening of Sunday, May 10, 2026.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, two Superior Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Seventh Street for a report of a subject armed with a knife inside the residence with another adult.

Upon arrival, the law enforcement officers encountered the subject holding a knife. One officer discharged their weapon, striking the subject as well as the other adult.

The subject and adult were transported to local hospitals where they remain. No other individuals were injured during this incident.

The involved law enforcement officer was wearing a body-worn camera during the incident, and will be placed on administrative leave, per the agency’s policy.

DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Superior Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation. DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over the investigative reports to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
