Since Donald Trump took office last January, this year has been a complete disaster for Wisconsinites. In his first year, under Trump, working families are struggling with skyrocketing prices and a dismal job market, rural communities are being gutted, family farm bankruptcies are soaring, and Wisconsin’s economy is taking a nosedive. Simply put, as Trump focuses on building his gilded ballroom and enriching billionaires, Wisconsin families are left suffering.
A Reminder: Trump recently rated his handling of the economy “A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus,” despite polling showing 67% of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy, with just 31% approving (the lowest amount ever), and 61% disapprove of his job performance overall after he called affordability a “hoax” and “con job.”
By nearly every metric, Donald Trump has been a disaster for Wisconsin. There’s a reason why Trump’s approval rating is plummeting to historic lows — his failed economic agenda has made the cost of living too expensive for Wisconsinites. This is Trump’s America: the ultrawealthy first, Wisconsinites last.
In response to Donald Trump’s disastrous first year of his second term, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:
“Trump promised to lower costs for Wisconsin families on Day One, but he’s done the opposite. Trump has spent his first year wining and dining CEOs and billionaires while skyrocketing costs, killing jobs, steering our economy toward recession, and kicking millions of Americans off their health care. Families are worse off than they were a year ago, but Democrats are standing up to fight for them. In 2025, Democrats swept up and down the ballot as voters rejected Trump at the ballot box. Working Americans nationwide are sending a message: Enough is enough. As Trump has his fun with gilded ballrooms and Great Gatsby parties while ignoring everybody else, Wisconsin families know Democrats will keep fighting on their behalf every day to lower costs and improve lives.”
Trump’s first year for Wisconsinites by the numbers:
Costs:
- Wisconsin working families have already lost $671 in higher costs due to Trump’s inflation.
- Wisconsin working families will lose a combined $1,060 each year from Trump and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill and Trump’s reckless tariffs.
Health Care:
- Wisconsin’s 271,589 ACA marketplace enrollees are at risk of losing their enhanced ACA tax credits.
- If enhanced ACA tax credits expire, a 60-year-old Wisconsinite making around $63,000 will see their monthly health care premiums increase by an average of 192%.
- Because of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and Republicans’ refusal to extend enhanced ACA tax credits, 110,000 Wisconsinites will become uninsured.
Food Assistance:
- Trump’s SNAP cuts will cause 375,000 Wisconsin families to lose some or all of their benefits.
