As Trump took the stage to deliver his State of the Union address full of lies and broken promises, Democrats took to the airwaves to tell the true story of Trump’s first year in office: soaring prices, rising layoffs, and billionaire handouts on the backs of working people.

Take a look at some of the coverage below:

11 Alive: “We talked with the Chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party, Charlie Bailey. He blames President Trump’s policies for creating what he describes as economic uncertainty in our state. ‘What was it just in January, Georgia led the nation in layoffs, and the highest numbers we’ve seen since the Great Recession in 2009. So, if Donald Trump’s talking, he’s lying, and that’s what we got a lot of last night.”

Iowa News Now: “Democrats in Washington say they already know what to expect from Trump. ‘There’s one thing that we can rely on Donald Trump to do, and that is to lie to the American people. When he ran for office, for reelection, he promised that he was going to lower prices, and that promise has been broken. Grocery prices are still high. Utility prices are on the rise. Young people still can’t afford to purchase a home, so in the end, we are left with a bunch of empty promises and empty wallets tonight.’”

KCCI:“Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart pushes back on that message and encourages Iowans to compare it to what they are currently experiencing. ‘Here in Iowa, and the fact that under this administration, we are 49th in economic growth, 48th in personal income growth, that we don’t feel like we’re getting the health care that we need when we’re number one in the country for new cancer cases.”

KCCI: “Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart tells me that Iowans are not feeling the relief that the President talked about. ‘I think that people know that it’s more expensive to go to the grocery store these days, and we also know that as a result of President Trump’s tariffs, we’re all paying more, and also we’ve got a lot of Iowans who are paying much higher premiums on their health insurance.’”

KWWL“Democrats are saying that the President has not kept his promises when it comes to several key issues important to many Iowans, such as making E15 available year-round nationwide. ‘That means farmers and ranchers, in particular, farmers who rely on growing corn ethanol to make sure that we have better fuel standards and a better environment when we’re driving our cars, we don’t have that ability, because we still don’t have E15 at the gas pumps.’”

Newswatch 7500“The Nebraska Democratic Party sent Omaha’s News Leader a statement ahead of the President’s address. Party chair Jane Kleeb says tonight’s State of the Union will be full of ‘Trump’s higher prices, empty wallets and broken promises.’ She adds, ‘Trump will distract you with false information.’ Kleeb expects him to focus on tariffs after last week’s Supreme Court [decision].”

Queen City News“As Donald Trump steps up to give his State of the Union, he’ll be talking to American families and households who are struggling to afford rent, groceries, and health care. Democrats as a whole have a different take. Here’s Hannah Muldavin with the DNC. ‘He’s going to try to talk tonight about how that is helpful to the American people. But everybody knows how much is in their pockets, and it’s not more than a year ago than when Trump came into office.’”

CBS 17: “As we go into tonight, the Democrats are expecting to hear a lot of lies from President Trump. … ‘This is a president who said he would lower costs on day one, but instead, last year, American households paid an average of $2,000 more because of Trump’s inflation and his tariffs.’ … ‘We want checks on some of what’s going on with ICE and DHS, so things like body cameras or things like making sure when a federal agent wants to come to your door, they have to have a warrant for that.’ … Democrats will be watching, saying, especially during a midterm year, they want Americans to have the most accurate information possible. ‘We’re planning to hold him accountable. We’re going to focus on the higher costs, corruption, and chaos in the Trump administration.’”
