Today, JD Vance travelled to Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District to try to spin Donald Trump’s economic policies that are costing Wisconsin families over $2,000 a year and destroying thousands of jobs across the state. Vance’s trip comes on the heels of Trump’s disastrous State of the Union address, in which he spent almost two hours lying about the state of the economy over and over again, including falsely claiming that the “economy is roaring like never before.”

Just as Wisconsinites did not buy Trump’s cheap spin during his State of the Union address, they did not buy Vance’s spin today.

In response, DNC Spokesperson Albert Fujii released the following statement:

“Today, JD Vance tried to gaslight Wisconsinites about Trump’s toxic economic agenda that is jacking up their costs and costing them their jobs and health care. But Wisconsinites were not fooled. Just like they did not buy Trump’s lies during this week’s State of the Union, hardworking Wisconsinites did not buy Vance’s attempt to gaslight them today. While Vance spends his time cozying up to billionaires like Elon Musk, who think they can buy Wisconsin elections, Democrats won’t stop fighting to lower Wisconsinites’ costs and fighting back against the rampant corruption of this administration.”

Trump and his economic policies have been a disaster for Wisconsin families:
Trump and Vance’s toxic economic policies have caused costs to skyrocket:

  • The median household in the district will lose over $1,000 per year from the combined effects of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill and tariffs.
  • The average Wisconsin family paid over $1,500 more last year due to Trump’s inflation, including hundreds more for housing.

Trump and his erratic trade war are killing thousands of jobs in Wisconsin:

  • Layoffs rose by 4,000 during Trump’s first year back in office.
  • Wisconsin lost 2,200 manufacturing jobs last year, including 400 in Eau Claire and La Crosse alone.
  • 16 family farms have gone bankrupt under Trump, a 700% increase.

Trump and Vance have created a health care crisis:

  • Because of Trump and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill and refusal to extend enhanced ACA premium tax credits, 14,000 people in WI-03 could lose their health care.
  • After Trump and Republicans let the ACA tax credits expire at the end of 2025, more than 22,000 Wisconsinites dropped their health care coverage after seeing their premiums skyrocket.
