Franklin, WI – The National President of Forward Latino, a national non-profit, non-partisan, service and advocacy organization headquartered in Franklin, Wisconsin and with affiliates and members in 29 states issued the following statement regarding the shooting of an observer in Minneapolis, Minnesota by an U.S. immigration enforcement agent.
Statement by National President Darryl Morin:
“This afternoon, we call on all people of faith to join us in prayer for a women who was shot and killed by a U.S. immigration agent during another overreaching and unlawful immigration enforcement action in Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier this morning.
Multiple eyewitnesses report that an immigration enforcement agent shot a woman who was seated in her vehicle near an enforcement operation. Witnesses state unequivocally that she was not using her vehicle in a threatening manner. They further report that a nearby physician repeatedly attempted to reach the victim to provide emergency medical care but was denied access by immigration officials at the scene.
As communities across the country continue to endure fear, disruption, and chaos stemming from these federal actions, many of which raise serious legal and moral concerns, we urge everyone to remain calm, to document what they witness, and to share that information with local law enforcement authorities.
Individuals seeking guidance on how to respond when witnessing unlawful immigration enforcement activity can find resources at www.reportice.org and www.informeice.org.
Once again, we lift up our prayers for the victim and her family, and for all Minnesotans who are living in fear for their lives and their freedom during this profoundly difficult time.”
