Franklin, WI – Forward Latino, a non-profit, non-partisan service and advocacy organization headquartered in Franklin, Wisconsin and with members and affiliates in 29 states issued the follow statement following the post of U.S. President Donald J. Trump this evening attacking Pope Leo XIV.

Statement by National President Darryl Morin:

“Tonight, the President of the United States demonstrated a reckless disregard for the deeply held beliefs of millions of Roman Catholics around the world, as well as for all people of faith who are committed to defending the inherent dignity of every human person and the sanctity of life.

Forward Latino condemns his actions in the strongest possible terms and calls on all members of the United States Congress to likewise denounce his conduct.

As a leader among people of faith, Pope Leo XIV reminds believers that human dignity is not optional. It is fundamental. In a world that too often reduces individuals to labels or divisions, his unwavering defense of the inherent worth of every person is both timely and essential. As Scripture reminds us, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them” (Genesis 1:27), affirming the sacred value and dignity of every human life.

His call to truly live one’s faith and not merely profess it, challenges all of us to act with compassion, courage, and integrity in our daily lives. Faith is not meant to remain within walls; it must guide how we treat one another, especially the most vulnerable among us. As it is written, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).

Forward Latino is grateful for Pope Leo’s leadership, and for all faith leaders who speak clearly, without reservation or evasion, about the urgent need to protect the God-given dignity of every human being.”
