WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, celebrated the election of Governor-elect David Crowley and Democratic victories in the Wisconsin Legislature that paved the way to majorities in both chambers. With these victories, a gun safety trifecta will be in place across all levels of state government for the first time in 16 years.
“This is a major victory for public safety in Wisconsin. For years, Republican majorities in Madison stood in the way of progress on gun safety — but now, Wisconsinites have elected a slate of champions that can finally make a difference. I know Governor-elect Crowley will always put public safety ahead of partisan politics. With last night’s wins, where Democrats claimed a gun safety majority in both chambers of the legislature, progress is finally within reach and a safer future is coming to the Badger State,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
“We congratulate all the GIFFORDS PAC–endorsed candidates who held and flipped important seats in Wisconsin. We’re excited to get to work to finish the job on a number of issues and save lives,” Giffords added.
