Days out from the 7th CD primary, new outside spending is attacking GOP candidate Michael Alfonso as “entitled” and a “nepo baby.”

The 30-second attack ad comes from American Future Fund Political Action, which on Wednesday reported spending some $135,100 on broadcast advertising targeting Alfonso.

The similarly named American Future Fund in June transferred $500,000 to American Future Fund Political Action. An American Future Fund registered with the FEC had not filed a report since 2018.

Google’s Ad Transparency Tracker has also picked up several positive 15-second spots since yesterday from American Future Fund imploring voters “call Jessi Ebben,” Alfonso’s rival in the 7th CD primary.

“Nepotism: handing a relative a job he didn’t earn,” the narrator intones in the anti-Alfonso spot. “See also: Michael Alfonso.”

The narrator notes Alfonso’s age, notes he has “no job” and was recently registered to vote in Florida, and says he “registered to vote at his father-in-law’s house to run for Congress.”

It also recaps Transportation Secretary and Alfonso father-in-law Sean Duffy’s financial support of Alfonso’s candidacy as well as the financial backing the Alfonso campaign received from lobbyists and special interest groups. The words “carpetbagger” and “swamp” are prominently displayed.

“Vote no on nepo baby Michael Alfonso. He’s not entitled to our congressional seat,” the narrator says to close the spot.

AdImpact tracked the spot running in the Wausau-Rhinelander broadcast market.

The Alfonso campaign, which sought to blame Ebben for the attack ad, also shared a new 30-second video centered on Alfonso’s Cuban heritage. AdImpact hadn’t tracked the spot on the air yet, and Alfonso’s campaign said it was for digital purposes.

Prior to the new ad from American Future Fund Political Action, outside spending in the race has been dominated by one group supporting Alfonso and another backing Ebben.

Northwoods Future PAC, funded largely by Duffy and Illinois billionaire businessman Dick Uihlein, has spent $3.6 million backing Alfonso, according to FEC filings.

The Liz Uihlein-funded Northwoods PAC has spent $1.6 million supporting Ebben.
