Watertown, Wis. — Habitat for Humanity Waukesha – Jefferson – Rock announced today that $500,000 in federal funding has been secured to support the College Park housing development in Watertown, a workforce housing project that will create 12 affordable homes for families in Jefferson and Southern Dodge County.
The funding, secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending request supported by Senator Tammy Baldwin, will help Habitat for Humanity get the College Park project off to a strong start while positioning the organization to leverage additional public and private investment to expand affordable housing opportunities in the region.
Located in Watertown, the College Park development is designed to serve working families who are increasingly priced out of the local housing market. Rising construction costs and limited housing supply have made workforce housing a critical need for the community.
“This funding allows us to move forward with confidence,” said Melissa Songco, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waukesha – Jefferson – Rock. “It provides the momentum we need to begin construction on these 12 homes and helps us leverage additional resources so we can build more homes in the future.”
The project held a groundbreaking in November, but construction was delayed due to unforeseen factors. Habitat for Humanity now anticipates construction beginning within the next 45 days.
