Sauk County, Wisconsin — August 22, 2026 — Julie Helmer, Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s 40th Assembly District, is speaking out against the proposed 765-kilovolt transmission line that could stretch approximately 190 miles across southern Wisconsin.

This is not just another power line, these enormous transmission towers could permanently change our rural communities, cross working farms and alter Wisconsin’s beautiful landscape for generations.

As a rural Sauk County resident and proud Farm Bureau member, Wisconsin must put farmers, property owners and rural communities first. Our farmland is not a blank canvas, Farmers have invested their lives, their money and their families into this land. We should not make it harder for them to farm or force them to accept massive infrastructure that changes the character of their property.

PROPERTY RIGHTS MATTER

People should not feel powerless when a massive infrastructure project is proposed through their backyard or across their farm, Property rights matter. These people deserve more than just a notice in the mail telling them what is going to happen to their property.

I would like more information released about the potential impacts of extremely high-voltage transmission infrastructure on people, livestock, wildlife, crops and the environment. When we are talking about 765 kilovolts, we need to make sure the safety of our families, farmers, animals and environment comes first. Wisconsin’s farms, open countryside and natural beauty are part of what makes our state special.
