Madison, WI—Carpenter and Former State Rep. Brett Hulsey released his campaign finance report showing he is on track to win the Aug. 11 primary.

“When I ran against billionaire-backed Gov. Scott Walker in 2014 to restore money for students, job training, worker healthcare, retirement and unions, I got 51,830 votes but only spent $5,700 in the primary, or 11 cents per vote. That is the best in history in the country according to my attorney. Now I have saved up $50,000 of my own money. At that same rate I should easily win the primary with 513,000 votes which should be the large majority of the voters the August 11 primary of ~600,000 voters.” (There were 538,000 voters in the 2018 Dem. Primary for Governor)

Hulsey patterns his campaign former State Rep. and U.S. Senator William Proxmire, who was legendary for spending little on his campaign and being the longest serving U.S. Senator in Wisconsin history (1957-1989).

“Like Senator Proxmire, I spend my time talking to the people of Wisconsin and asking them, “How can I help you?”. It seems like my opponents are begging for money from rich fat cats while drawing government paychecks,” said Hulsey, a carpenter, small business owner and general contractor of Better Environmental Solutions LLC. “If money bought elections, Senator Proxmire would not be the longest serving US Senator in Wisconsin history,” Hulsey said.

Brett Has Cash to Win Primary

“I hate begging for money and want to be my own man to make the best decisions for you and your family. Running a small business, I have to do real work and like talking to real voters. That’s why I have saved up $50,000 of my own money to invest in Wisconsin for a better future for my grandchildren, children and your family, not the rich fat cats like my opponents,” Hulsey said.

“If you like that, you can send a small donation to Friends of Brett Hulsey, P.O. Box 44688, Madison, WI 53744 or go to my website, www.vote4brett.org. If not, get ready to be screwed some more.”

The Wisconsin political elites base their comments on how much money each candidate raised and their standing in polls. Hulsey was regularly one of the top vote getters on his 16 years on the Dane County Board and State Legislature and spent little money. He also served as President Clinton and VP Gore’s Deputy Political Director for Agriculture and Environment in the War Room in 1992.

“If you believe the insiders, William Proxmire would never have been elected for 33 years,” said Hulsey. “You deserve to hear from all the candidates and, remember, the political pundits want them to spend more money because that’s how they feather their mansions’ nests. I want to put your money back in your bank account instead.”
