MADISON – Today, voters across Dane County made their voices heard at the polls in the primary election for Circuit Court, Branch 1. A majority of county voters made an early but decidedly strong indication they want Judge Ben Jones to continue serving the people of Dane County in Circuit Court, Branch 1.

Judge Ben Jones made a statement following tonight’s Primary Election victory:

I am deeply grateful to the voters of Dane County for the strong support demonstrated tonight in the primary election for Circuit Court, Branch 1. Your confidence in my experience, integrity, and commitment to fair and impartial justice is incredibly motivating.

Throughout this campaign, we’ve focused on what matters most: ensuring that every person who enters our courtrooms is treated with dignity, that the rule of law is upheld without bias or favor, and that our justice system remains independent and accessible to all. I’m honored that so many voters responded to that message.

With this primary victory behind us, I am energized and ready to continue the work ahead in the April 7 General Election. Over the next seven weeks, I look forward to traveling the county and earning broader support from the community while I continue to serve Dane County with fairness, respect, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

To everyone who volunteered, donated, talked with neighbors, and cast their ballots today – thank you. Let’s keep moving this campaign forward together.

A longtime champion for the rights of kids and inclusion in education, Judge Jones was appointed to the bench by Governor Tony Evers, following a comprehensive merit-driven selection process. Prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge Jones built an impressive record as an attorney in private practice, and then was chief legal counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the state’s education agency.

Jones distinguished himself at DPI as the leader developing legal frameworks for providing education during the COVID crisis. He was also the architect of a legal strategy to protect children’s rights, especially as the Trump Administration has tried to undermine protections secured through generations of advocacy – especially for LGBTQ+ kids.

Judge Jones lives in Monona with his wife and two sons, and is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison and UW Law School.

The general election is April 7, 2026.
