MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, Badger State Sheriffs’ Association, and Wisconsin Sheriffs & Deputy Sheriffs Association applaud Governor Evers for signing Assembly Bill 968 (AB 968) into law as 2025 Wisconsin Act 226. Act 226 establishes important statewide safeguards for crypto kiosks, which are frequently used in sophisticated scams targeting vulnerable Wisconsin residents.

“Law enforcement across Wisconsin is seeing the real-world impact of these scams every day,” the associations said jointly. “These are highly coordinated schemes that prey on fear, urgency, and trust, often leaving victims with little chance of recovering their money once it is gone.

We want to sincerely recognize and commend the bipartisan work that made this bill possible. Democrats and Republicans devoted significant time and effort to advancing this legislation, united by a shared commitment to protecting Wisconsin residents from fraud and financial exploitation. We deeply appreciate the collaboration, leadership, and determination that brought this important measure to the Governor’s desk.

This law is not anti-crypto; it is a firm stand against fraud and crime, safeguarding Wisconsin residents and empowering law enforcement with stronger tools to combat illegal activities.”
