Milwaukee – The 4th Annual Future Voters Fest/Festival de Futuros Votantes, an informative fun event to promote voting on Milwaukee’s Southside, will be held August 19 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at La Plazita Parklet, S.16th St. & Forest Home Ave. The 13 Event Sponsors are: League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County; Cristo Rey High School; Froedtert/Medical College of Wisconsin’s Family Medicine Residency Program; La Causa School; Lime; LIT (Leaders Ignited for Transformation); Milwaukee Youth Council; Milwaukee Turners; Muskego Way Forward (Milwaukee Community Crossroads); Nationall Council of Jewish Women; Safe and Sound,;VoteRiders; and WIVEC (WI Interfaith Voters Engagement Campaign)/Tikkun Ha-Ir .
Future Voters Fest will provide hands-on, engaging bilingual (Spanish-English) activities for teens, children and their families to learn about the voting process and to promote voting as a key responsibility in supporting our democracy. The event will include mock elections, games and giveaways. Backpacks, school supplies and helmets will also be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
“We are here to help provide voter education to everyone as extensively as possible and this includes our youth” stated Eloisa Gómez of the League of Women Voters. “We are also likely to help register new voters at our event.” stated Eloisa
New Future Voters Fest member, Arias Dinan, a member of the Milwaukee Youth Council, decided that the event was a great way to promote awareness of the Council and to possibly help recruit new members. “When the League reached out to the Council, I contacted them and let them know I would like to become involved.” stated Arias.
