Former small business owner offers a sharp contrast to Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s record of tax cuts for the wealthy, health care cuts, and tariffs that squeeze Main Street
LA CROSSE, Wis. — Main Street Action PAC today announced its endorsement of Rebecca Cooke in Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, citing her record as a small business owner and her commitment to policies that put local entrepreneurs ahead of corporate interests.
Cooke built her career running a small business in western Wisconsin before entering public life, giving her firsthand experience with the challenges small business owners face, from securing capital to navigating rising costs. As part of that work, she helped small businesses access support.
“Rebecca Cooke knows what it takes to make payroll, keep the lights on, and grow a business from the ground up because she’s done it herself,” said Shawn Phetteplace, National Campaigns Director of Main Street Action PAC. “That’s the kind of experience western Wisconsin needs in Congress, not another vote for policies written by and for the wealthiest corporations and donors.”

Main Street Action PAC pointed to Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s record as evidence of the stakes in this race.
Van Orden has backed tax cuts that deliver outsized benefits to the wealthy and large corporations, supported cuts to health care that leave working families and small business owners more exposed, and defended tariff policies that have raised costs for the small businesses that make up the backbone of Wisconsin’s 3rd District economy.
“Small business owners in this district are dealing with higher costs because of tariffs, less certainty around their health coverage, and a tax code stacked against them,” Shawn Phetteplace continued.
“Derrick Van Orden has had the chance to fight for Main Street and instead he’s sided with Wall Street and the wealthy, over and over again. Rebecca Cooke will fight for the entrepreneurs and small business owners who are the real engine of our economy.”
Main Street Action PAC represents small business owners organizing for an economy that works for Main Street, not just Wall Street. The PAC’s endorsement reflects its assessment of candidates’ records and commitments on issues affecting small business owners nationwide.
