EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin will recognize three of Wisconsin’s leading crime victim advocates with its Champion of Crime Victims’ Rights Award, honoring professionals who have worked to strengthen the implementation and enforcement of victims’ rights in the criminal justice process.
Eau Claire County District Attorney Peter J. Rindal, Eau Claire County Victim Witness Coordinator Jessica Bryan, and Bronson Stein with Bolton Refuge House are receiving the award for their “tireless work helping survivors navigate the criminal justice system and recover from the trauma of being victimized,” according to Nela Kalpic, State Director for Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin.
As district attorney, Peter Rindal has ensured his office is connecting crime victims with their rights under Wisconsin’s crime victim rights constitutional amendment known as Marsy’s Law. He has also partnered with efforts to increase public awareness of Marsy’s Law, helping bring the amendment’s protections to life for the community year after year.
Jessica Bryan brings compassion and consistency to her daily contact with victims, treating every phone call and email as an opportunity to make someone feel seen and heard during one of the most difficult moments of their life. Her steady, person-first approach has shaped how victims experience the criminal justice system in Eau Claire County, reflecting the values at the heart of Marsy’s Law.
Bronson Stein has spent years bringing a community-based advocacy perspective to his work with crime victims, making survivors aware of their rights and supporting them on their healing journeys. Stein has been a long-time public voice supporting Marsy’s Law, including helping to champion the 2020 ratification vote.
Rindal, Bryan and Stein also helped with a recent Marsy’s Law silhouette display at the Eau Claire County Courthouse. The display included eight red silhouettes that represent the unseen survivors who walk among us and have been impacted by crime. Each silhouette highlighted a key right guaranteed to victims under Marsy’s Law.
“Peter, Jessica and Bronson are true heroes for crime victims in Eau Claire and we are incredibly fortunate to have them in our state. They are more than deserving of this recognition as ‘Champions of Crime Victims’ Rights’,” said Kalpic.
The event will be at 11 a.m., July 14 at the Eau Claire County Courthouse, 721 Oxford Ave, Eau Claire 54703. The event will also be livestreamed on the Marsy’s Law for Wisconsin Facebook page.
