MILWAUKEE – In April 2026, severe storms and flooding caused widespread damage throughout Milwaukee County and the state of Wisconsin. In response to this destruction, Governor Tony Evers requested a Major Disaster Declaration for the affected Wisconsin counties. On June 30, 2026, the request was approved by the Trump Administration, and Milwaukee County was approved to receive Individual Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Thank you to Governor Evers and Wisconsin’s Congressional Delegation for advocating on behalf of Wisconsin communities,” said County Executive Crowley. “Many Milwaukee County residents hadn’t even finished recovering from the August 2025 floods when the April storms hit. I’m grateful they now have access to these federal resources to help them rebuild and move forward.”

FEMA Individual Assistance unlocks financial aid for eligible homeowners and renters that were affected by the storms between April 13 – 23, 2026, whose disaster-related expenses aren’t fully covered by insurance. Financial assistance can help cover basic repairs needed to make a home safe, sanitary, and livable.

Residents whose homes sustained losses or damage can now apply for FEMA Individual Assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.

To be eligible for assistance, residents must meet the following qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien.
  • FEMA must be able to confirm your identity.
  • Your damaged home is your primary residence.
  • Your insurance, or other forms of disaster assistance received, cannot meet your disaster-caused needs.
  • Your necessary expenses and serious needs are directly caused by a declared disaster.
