MILWAUKEE – County Executive David Crowley has proclaimed May as Older Americans Month in celebration of the older adults who have helped shape Milwaukee County through their leadership, service, and dedication to our community.
This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” is a reminder of the importance for seniors to proactively manage their health and seek preventative care. Aging is a privilege, and County Executive Crowley wants to ensure all Milwaukee County seniors have access to resources and services to enjoy this season of life.
“Milwaukee County is committed to building communities where all residents can age with dignity, independence, and support,” said County Executive Crowley. “My administration has invested in our senior centers, dining programs, and community-based resources to empower our seniors and older adults to thrive. This Older Americans Month and beyond, let us recommit to supporting our aging community in Milwaukee County every step of the way.”

County Executive Crowley has worked to support the needs of aging residents by providing funding for the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Aging & Disabilities Services, which funds senior center programming, nutrition programs, and elder abuse prevention.
In 2024, Milwaukee County was named a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, becoming the first county in Wisconsin to earn this designation. In 2025, an Age-Friendly Communities Steering Committee was created to advance this work as an AARP-designated Livable Community. The Committee spent 2025 gathering data and engaging nearly 1,000 Milwaukee County older adults to determine areas of greatest need in the community. This designation will further guide investments in transportation, housing, public spaces, and community engagement. Visit the Age-Friendly Initiative website to learn more about Milwaukee County’s commitment to older adults in our community.
