MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Supervisors Juan Miguel Martinez, Caroline Gómez-Tom, Jack Eckblad, Anne O’Connor, 1st Vice Chair Steven Shea, and 2nd Vice Chair Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones issued the following statement in response to the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota earlier this week:

“What happened yesterday in Minnesota was a state-sanctioned murder. The current administration is responsible for this killing, just as it is responsible for the chaos, fear, and violence being inflicted on immigrant communities across this country. This is part of a broader campaign that disrupts peaceful lives, suppresses free speech, and operates under a thin veil of white supremacy. While this brutality is nothing new for communities of color, that does not make it acceptable. The blood is on the hands of this vile administration”

The Supervisors condemned the use of deadly force by federal immigration authorities and called for immediate accountability, transparency, and the removal of ICE agents from local communities, stating:

“The federal government has unleashed armed and poorly trained agents who fundamentally undermine public safety and the rule of law. This has nothing to do with legitimate immigration enforcement and everything to do with intimidation, violence, and abuse of power. These practices must end immediately.”

Supervisors further emphasized that residents have every right to express outrage and demand change, concluding:

“This moment demands clarity and moral courage. Silence and neutrality only enable further violence. We will continue to stand with immigrant communities and all those demanding justice, accountability, and dignity for every human being.”
