RAYMOND, Wis. – ER nurse and Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District Mitchell Berman criticized Rep. Bryan Steil for yet another vote against the War Powers Resolution to end the reckless war in Iran, which has caused record-breaking gas, diesel, and fertilizer prices that increase prices for Wisconsin farmers, small business owners, and families.

Berman issued the following statement:

“After a decade of working as a nurse at the VA, I know that war leaves veterans, servicemembers, and their families with deep scars. Bryan Steil and Donald Trump are only causing more pain with their reckless, unnecessary war. Steil is greenlighting higher gas prices, longer lines at the VA, and harder lives for Wisconsinites. Unlike Steil, I’m in this fight for the very same reason I put on my VA scrubs a decade ago: putting Wisconsinites first, and that means passing the War Powers Resolution, lowering gas prices, and bringing our servicemembers home.”

The House has attempted to restrict military action in Iran more than a dozen times using the War Powers Act of 1973, which requires the president to obtain Congressional authorization within 60 days of committing U.S. forces to a military engagement or withdraw them. More than half a year after the start of the war, gas prices are averaging over $4 a gallon and diesel is averaging $6 a gallon. At each vote, Steil has opposed ending the war.
