Mar. 11, 2026 (Milwaukee) On Thursday, Mar. 12, Mount Mary University will host “Carrying the Mission Forward,” a launch celebration for its new Institute for the Advancement of Women and Children (IAWC).
Founded under the direction of President Isabelle Cherney, the IAWC offers resources such as educational programming featuring global thought leaders, professional development opportunities, community healthcare efforts, and expanded access to STEM and technology training programs for women.
Center leads will be on site during the Mar. 12 event to provide information and present impact posters showcasing IAWC accomplishments. Visitors can also tour the campus Health Skills Laboratory. Event highlights include:
- The Center for Women’s Leadership will share information about the Summer Leadership Program, a career exploration and leadership development experience for high school girls, and Voices of Leadership, an annual program bringing women thought leaders to campus.
- The Center for Women’s Health and Wellness will present the Culturabot project developed by the Occupational Therapy faculty and students to create culturally sensitive health care plans. They will also share information about the university’s newly acquired birthing simulation training technology.
- The Center for the Advancement of Women in Technology will share information about using “tech for good,” including the university’s recently acquired hydroponics growing unit and 3D printer, as well as the use of game design and virtual reality as multi-disciplinary educational tools.
- The Center for Women and Children’s Rights will discuss a storytelling partnership with Milwaukee-based organization Ex Fabula. They will also share ongoing efforts to prevent human trafficking in collaboration with Milwaukee non-profit Exploit No More, and a collaboration with the SSND Global Education Commission led by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
