MENASHA, Wis. — Today, Democratic candidate for Wisconsin’s 53rd Assembly District Becky Nichols announced endorsements from the current and former mayors of Menasha. Early voting in Wisconsin begins today, Tuesday, October 20.

Current Menasha Mayor Austin Hammond (2024-present) issued the following statement:

”I am appreciative of Becky Nichols’ hard work serving the people of Menasha over the years, and I am happy to endorse her to represent us for Assembly District 53 in Madison. Becky understands the importance of listening to and working with people of different viewpoints and backgrounds. She is a champion for the Fox Cities and exactly who our community needs in Madison after a historically difficult summer. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve Menasha together.”

Former Menasha Mayor Don Merkes (2008-2024) issued the following statement:

“In a matter of weeks we will elect a new representative to the Wisconsin State Assembly and I’ll be voting for Becky Nichols. I’ve known her for many years, and she is a person of the highest integrity. Whether serving as a volunteer, an elected official, an educator, or if you’re lucky enough to have her as your neighbor – she is a person you can trust.

“Becky has spent the better part of two decades working to make our communities better. She has helped homeowners maintain and improve their homes, developed programs to protect safe drinking water, and raised funds to support those in need. During her 12 years on the Menasha City Council, Becky worked effectively with others to move Menasha’s assessed tax rate from the highest among area cities to the second lowest.

“I’m supporting Becky because I know her thoughtful, collaborative approach to management and problem-solving will serve our state and our communities well. I’m confident she will bring that same dedication, along with her common sense and commitment to getting things done, to her work for us in the Assembly.

“Please join me in voting for Becky Nichols for State Assembly.”
