More facilities are at risk of closing their doors than ever before, with 900 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers nationwide shuttering, at risk of shuttering, or cutting essential services. Across the country, hospitals and providers are “teetering on the edge” because of Republicans’ over $1 trillion health care cuts to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Communities are losing access to the care they depend on and face longer drives, fewer options, delayed care, and worse outcomes. For many communities, especially rural ones, the local hospital is a lifeline, providing not just care but good-paying jobs and economic stability. Providers, advocates, and patients are sounding the alarm on a health care crisis that is getting worse day by day, with each new headline underscoring how fragile Republicans have made our health care system.

“Hospital Crisis Watch has now reached 900 pins, 900 communities where access to care is evaporating as Republicans’ health care cuts ripple across the country,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “Providers are stretched thin, doing everything they can as resources disappear and the system buckles under the pressure of Republicans cutting more than $1 trillion from health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Families are driving further for care, parents are scrambling to find services for their kids, and seniors are being left without the support they need. Care is getting harder to access, in too many places, disappearing entirely, and communities are left to deal with the consequences.”
