Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, reporting from the Wall Street Journal revealed the Trump administration is ending the program that helps seniors afford coverage for their medications. This comes after Republicans already drove up the cost of seniors’ most expensive medications by creating a loophole for big companies to escape price negotiations and made it harder for families to afford nursing home care by slashing $1 trillion from Medicaid to fund tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.

In response, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach issued a statement:

“Donald Trump and Republicans are making health care more expensive for seniors at every turn. In the middle of a GOP-induced affordability crisis, they are eliminating a key program that helps seniors afford their medications, meaning countless seniors will soon pay more just to get the life-saving prescriptions they need. For older Americans living on fixed incomes, even an extra ten or twenty dollars a month can mean choosing between filling their prescription, paying the electric bill, or buying groceries. Seniors deserve lower prescription drug costs and affordable health care. Instead of lowering costs, Donald Trump and Republicans continue to force seniors to pay more while handing tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations.”
