Madison – Today, Governor Evers signed two bills—Assembly Bill 130 and 131—to address PFAS contamination in Wisconsin. Representative Jill Billings issued the following statement in response:

“Today is a great day for Wisconsin. After many years of advocating and working on this issue, it was a wonderful feeling to see forward movement to address and treat PFAS contamination across our state.”

“I cosponsored these two bills because I know that they will have real, positive effects on Wisconsinites. This legislation allocates over $130 million in funding for PFAS remediation, testing, well compensation grants, and assistance for individuals and municipalities experiencing PFAS contamination in private and municipal wells. At the same time, this legislation ensures that the state does not punish innocent landowners with PFAS contamination on their property. This funding will go a long way to address PFAS and help Wisconsinites access clean water.”

“I am grateful to Town of Campbell Board Supervisor Lee Donahue and State Representative Mursau for their hard work to champion this legislation, and to Governor Evers for prioritizing clean water and signing these bills into law. The work isn’t over until all Wisconsinites have access to clean, safe drinking water and we have more work to do, but I am invigorated by today’s win for water safety and quality in Wisconsin and I’m excited to come back and continue to build on today’s progress in the next legislative session.”
