Madison – This morning, Assembly and Senate Democrats held a press conference for the rollout of the Cutting Costs for Child Care package. Representative Billings introduced LRB-4878 as part of this package and released the following statement:

“Increasing affordability and access to child care is crucial for making Wisconsin more family-friendly so families can afford to live and grow here. The bills in this package expand eligibility and cap copayments for Wisconsin Shares, help child care centers keep their door open, and support future educators by removing barriers to entry for future child care workers.”

“I was proud to introduce LRB-4878, which will allow like-kin caregivers to benefit from Wisconsin Shares. A like-kin caregiver is a person with a significant emotional relationship with a child or the child’s family that is comparable to a familial relationship. The legislature passed Act 119 last session to expand kinship care eligibility to include like-kin, ensuring that children stay with a familiar, caring adult. By closing this gap in Wisconsin Shares, this bill will ensure that more children have access to the care they need and can stay in stable, supportive environments where they can thrive.”
