Madison – Last night, the Wisconsin Assembly passed AB 957 and AB 958. Rep. Billings introduced these bills as part of her work on the Protecting Kids Task Force and she released the following statement:
“I authored AB 957 and AB 958 to help keep Wisconsin’s kids safe and I am grateful that my colleagues in the Assembly joined me in voting to advance this important legislation. These bills will provide the Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force with four new positions to educate the public and combat child abuse online. The number of cases of sextortion and other crimes that ICAC investigates has increased exponentially in recent years, and this legislation will help law enforcement combat predators.”
“The work of ICAC is both proactive and reactive. Their mission includes investigation, training, victim services, education, and prevention. By providing staff positions for both investigations and preventative outreach, we will stop predators and help parents and children stay safe online. I am proud that this legislation passed out of the Assembly and am hopeful that the Senate will vote to advance these bills and send them to the Governor’s desk soon.”
