Madison – Today, the State Building Commission met to consider several projects, including $2,690,000 in funds to renovate Murphy Library at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Representative Billings, a member of the State Building Commission and the Chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee, voted in support of this project and released the following statement in response:

“I was proud to support the project that will transform the lower level of UWL’s Murphy Library into a new Learning Center and tutoring space. This funding will allow UWL to renovate and repurpose space that is currently vacant since repairs were made to flooding damage in the basement. It is so important to provide students with a functional, productive environment where they can study and learn during their college years.”

“I am particularly glad of the coincidence that Chancellor Beebe and more than 30 UWL students were in the Capitol today for the annual UWL Political Science and Public Administration Day in Madison. They were able to learn about this project and the State Building Commission and it was a privilege to hear from them about their experiences at UWL.”
