State Representative Calvin Callahan (R-Tomahawk) released the following statement:
“I am honored that Legislative leadership has entrusted me with this important responsibility. Cemeteries and burial sites are sacred places for Wisconsinites and generations of our ancestors. This committee will work to protect the honor and dignity of those who have passed away, ensuring that their burial sites are respected and preserved.
“I especially look forward to speaking with the leading experts in this field who will serve as citizen members of the committee. I am immensely grateful for their willingness to share their time and expertise with us. In recent conversations with constituents, stakeholders, and legislative attorneys, I have found broad consensus that Wisconsin’s cemetery laws are in need of a few updates. This committee presents a great opportunity to reinforce the dignity and respect we owe to those who came before us. I am humbled to serve as Chairman of the Study Committee on Cemeteries.”
