Madison, WI – Last night, Governor Evers delivered his final State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature. Following the address, Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) issued the following statement:
“Governor Evers continued his pattern of taking credit for the fiscal discipline of legislative Republicans that has kept Wisconsin’s finances strong. The 2025-2027 budget, drafted by legislative Republicans, boasts meaningful investments in special education, mental health services, shared revenue, and public safety. All while providing $2 billion in property tax relief.
While the Governor highlighted historic education funding, he failed to acknowledge the truth about his 400-year veto, which places a long-term burden on middle-class families. This de facto permanent property tax increase threatens to price families out of their homes. Wisconsin taxpayers deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to decisions that affect their financial future.
With a budget surplus of $2.4 billion, we have a unique opportunity to come together to set the next generation up for success by investing in our schools while also providing meaningful tax relief. Republicans presented the Governor with a proposal that provides additional special education funding, property tax relief, and an income tax rebate.
Governor Evers, I urge you to work with the Legislature to enact a balanced plan that responsibly uses this surplus. We are prepared to support additional funding for our schools, but taxpayers must not be forgotten.”
