MADISON – Late last week, the Wisconsin State Assembly wrapped up the 2025-26 legislative session with its final floor session ending late Friday night. Following adjournment, State Representative Joan Fitzgerald (D-Fort Atkinson) released the following statement:

“As I reflect on the last year, I am so honored to have been granted the opportunity to represent the wonderful people of the 46th Assembly District. Over the course of this session, Legislative Democrats have remained committed to lowering costs and improving lives for the people of Wisconsin, and I am proud of the legislation we introduced to do just that.

“This year, we passed some incredible legislation to address PFAS, extend postpartum Medicaid coverage, and enact Gail’s Law. Beyond that, we passed bills that will prioritize elder care and protect children online. Nonetheless, because Republicans decided to end session unnecessarily early, they avoided Democrat-authored bills that would have further funded our public schools, addressed the ongoing gun violence facing our state, and lowered property taxes.

“The unwillingness of Republicans in the Legislature to work in a bipartisan fashion is nothing short of disappointing. There is so much more we can still do to help Wisconsin families. I truly hope that next session, we can work in a more collaborative way to address the multitude of issues facing our state.

“Democrats will never stop working for Wisconsin. Affordability remains a top priority, and even though Republicans consistently had us vote on bills that do not address critical issues, our efforts to support the hard-working families of our state will continue next session.”
