Madison – Rep. Joy Goeben (R-Hobart) shared the following statement in response to the Wisconsin State Assembly’s passage of Assembly Bill 677, legislation that criminalizes the act of grooming a child for sexual activity:
“AB 677 is designed to protect children and make it absolutely clear that grooming a child for sexual activity is unacceptable. It is deeply troubling that Representative Hong, who is running for governor of Wisconsin, does not support this bill. By voting against AB 677, she and four other Democrats are failing to take a stand against behavior and actions that target our children. This should never be a partisan issue, and Wisconsin families deserve leaders who prioritize the safety of kids.
“The same 5 Assembly Democrats refused to vote for AB 789 which will approve a negotiated agreement ensuring public safety employees receive appropriate compensation and benefits. Voting against law enforcement while voting to protect people who harm our kids is not a good look for someone who wants to lead our state,” concluded Rep. Goeben.
