Milwaukee, WI — State Representative Russell Goodwin (D–Milwaukee) released the following statement regarding this morning’s apartment fire on Fond du Lac Avenue in Wisconsin’s 12th Assembly District:
“I am deeply concerned by this morning’s apartment fire on Fond du Lac Avenue here in Assembly District 12. The fire forced residents, including children, to flee for their lives—five individuals jumped from balconies and were taken to the hospital, while six others were rescued by firefighters.
I am grateful for the swift response of the Milwaukee Fire Department and first responders, and I thank them for their bravery. Because of their actions—and the courage of residents to self-evacuate—there was no loss of life.
My heart is with every family impacted. This incident underscores the importance of continued investment in fire safety—ensuring our departments are properly funded, staffed, and equipped to prevent loss of life and respond effectively in emergencies.
