Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after Assembly Bill 619The Forestry Revitalization Act, passed the Assembly earlier today:

“The Forestry Revitalization Act will breathe new life into Wisconsin’s forestry industry. This legislation not only revives Wisconsin’s timber markets after years of decline but also creates hundreds of high-quality jobs. By utilizing 80% Wisconsin-sourced wood, the project ensures a strong, homegrown market for loggers and foresters while encouraging better forest management practices that maintain long-term health and productivity for our forests.

By restoring balance to our timber economy, the Forestry Revitalization Act will also help create better habitat for wildlife, improved access for hunters, and more scenic, healthier forests for recreation and tourism. This will help connect the state’s economic vitality to its natural landscape, ensuring that forestry, tourism, and conservation continue to thrive for generations to come.

Passing this legislation demonstrates our commitment to making meaningful investments in Northern Wisconsin and supporting an industry that has long been a staple of our state’s economy.”

The Forestry Revitalization Act would allow Synthec Fuels, in conjunction with Wisconsin-based company Johnson Timber, to invest in a new facility in Hayward that converts woody biomass into sustainable aviation fuel, primarily for export. The European Union is phasing in requirements that sustainable aviation fuel be blended with conventional aviation fuel, creating a strong and growing market.

The Forestry Revitalization Act now heads to the Senate.
