Madison, WI — State Representative Dave Maxey (R-New Berlin), Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections, addressed the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) findings regarding duplicate absentee ballots issued by the former Green Bay city clerk.

WEC ruled that former Clerk Celestine Jeffreys violated state election law by sending duplicate absentee ballots to voters without a valid request or reason during the April election and August primary.

“Mistakes can happen, but they shouldn’t be ignored. Election administration errors must be thoroughly examined, corrected, and addressed,” Rep. Maxey said. “Election integrity is not a partisan issue. It’s about ensuring every eligible voter can be confident that their vote is secure and that the results accurately reflect the will of the people.”

WEC also found that Green Bay lacked adequate procedures or recordkeeping to prevent or detect the errors, which it deemed an abuse of the clerk’s discretion.
