MADISON, WI –  Assembly Democrats continue to champion the health needs of women and families in Wisconsin. Yesterday, Rep. Renuka Mayadev and Assembly Democrats sent a formal letter to Speaker Vos to request a vote on Gail’s Law (AB 263/SB 264) to the floor for a vote before the Assembly is expected to adjourn this week.

This bipartisan legislation has more than 60 Republican and Democratic Representatives as co-sponsors. In fact, the Senate passed the bill in October 2025 with a vote of 32-1. Wisconsin Women must have access to necessary breast cancer screenings without having to manage financial hardship and delays.

Rep. Mayadev released the following statement:

“Each year, too many women die from breast cancer, and many more suffer unnecessarily because they aren’t able to access vital prevention screenings. Once again, Speaker Vos is dismissing the health needs of Wisconsin Women. I stand with my Democratic colleagues to demand a vote on Gail’s Law (AB 263/SB 264) and Postpartum Coverage for Vulnerable Mothers (AB 97/SB 23). It is outrageous that the Speaker is blocking the vote of both these bills despite the fact that more than half of the Assembly body and an overwhelming number of Republican and Democratic voters want to see these bills passed and signed into law.”
