MADISON, Wis. — Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement regarding AB 840 on today’s floor calendar:
“In my community and across our state, people are showing up to their local government meetings and engaging thoughtfully on data center proposals.
“We need to take action to regulate this industry, and we need to get it right.
“Unfortunately, the Republican bill on today’s session calendar will not do what it promises. It doesn’t hold corporations accountable, and it doesn’t protect our communities from higher energy costs. This bill makes it clear that Republicans don’t actually want to regulate data centers or large corporations.
“We cannot allow data center development to lead to higher energy prices for Wisconsinites. We must pass a better bill that protects ratepayers, supports renewable development, and creates good jobs in our state. Fortunately, we have proposed that bill. I hope my Republican colleagues will come to the table and work with us to actually address this important issue.”
