MADISON, WI – Today, the State Assembly passed legislation authored by Representative William Penterman (R-Hustisford) to protect Wisconsin farmland and forestry land from being acquired by a foreign adversary.

Assembly Bill 30 prohibits anyone from a nation hostile to the United States from purchasing or owning agricultural or forestry land in Wisconsin. The bill applies to countries designated as foreign adversaries by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, including the nations of China, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela.

“Wisconsin farmland should not belong to foreign adversaries like China, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela. Assembly Bill 30 protects Wisconsin farms from being used by foreign adversaries to compromise our national security while keeping farmland in the hands of Wisconsin families.”
