Madison, Wis. – Today, Chairwoman of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Nicole Boyd delivered the 22nd annual State of the Tribes Address at the Wisconsin State Capitol. Following the conclusion of the ceremony, Representative Priscilla A. Prado (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:

“The State of the Tribes Address is an important reminder of the vital role Wisconsin’s tribal nations play in our state. Chairman Nicole Boyd highlighted our shared responsibility to protect our resources, strengthen our communities, and plan for future generations.

“Native nations are foundational to Wisconsin’s history. That partnership must include a continued commitment to restoring and respecting the rights, resources, and opportunities that rightfully belong to tribal communities.

“In Assembly District 9, the Forest County Potawatomi Community is a strong example of that impact. Potawatomi plays a significant role in Milwaukee’s economic vitality and cultural diversity. Their leadership and stewardship continue to benefit communities across the state.

“By acknowledging the past, we can continue working together to build a future rooted in mutual respect and shared goals. I believe we are always stronger together, and remain committed to strengthening Wisconsin’s tribal partnerships.”
