MADISON – A number of bills authored by Representative Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek) passed the State Assembly today.

“This is a fantastic day in the Assembly. Today we passed multiple bills I have authored and advocated for this session  and for some through multiple sessions,” began Rodriguez. “Maternal morbidity and mortality are serious public health concerns. Under current law, new mothers are only guaranteed to stay on BadgerCare for 60 days after giving birth. Senate Bill 23 will support new mothers by ensuring they have uninterrupted healthcare coverage for a full 12 months after delivering their baby. I am thrilled that we are finally passing this legislation.”

Assembly Bill 454 establishes a workforce home loan programby creating a 0% interest second mortgage for eligible first-time homebuyers. This bipartisan legislation will help alleviate the burdens of the upfront cost in today’s housing market and get young families into their first homes,” continued Rodriguez. “These second mortgages are not just a financial policy – they are an investment in the workforce, families, and the future. By lessening the burden of one of the biggest obstacles to buying a home, we open the door to opportunity for thousands of eager first-time homebuyers who are ready to step inside. I’m thankful to my colleague, Rep. Dan Knodl, for his work on this initiative in previous sessions.”

Senate Bill 814 puts additional precautions in place regarding the placement of sexually violent offenders who are being released into the community. The bill requires a county to conduct a final analysis of a residence where an offender is to be placed to ensure it is still suitable. This legislation was inspired by constituents and their experience earlier last year,” concluded Rodriguez.

Senate Bill 23, Senate Bill 814, and Assembly Bill 454 passed the State Assembly. Senate Bills 23 and 814 will now head to the Governor’s desk. Assembly Bill 454 now heads to the State Senate for consideration.
